Councillor Tony Sach was invested with the Chain of Office and became the next Mayor of Chelmsford at the Borough Council's Annual Council meeting on Wednesday 13 May 2009. 14 May 2009
Councillor Tony Sach is one of two Borough Councillors for Writtle, and was first elected in 1999. A member of Chelmsford Borough Council's Cabinet for the last six years, Councillor Sach has also served on the Writtle Parish Council for many years, including time as Chairman. Born in Romford, he has lived in Writtle for most of his 50 plus years. He is married to Lorraine, with a daughter, a son and two grand daughters. Councillor Sach is retired after having worked for many years in Information Technology. He is now Chairman of the School Governors at Lawford Mead Infants and Nursery School and is a Management Governor of King Edward VI Grammar School. An active member of the local community, Councillor Sach has played cricket and football for the Writtle clubs, is a life member of the tennis club, and is also a member of the Writtle Society, Writtle Community Association and Writtle Sports and Social Club. His involvement in the sport of fencing extends to having been Chairman of England Fencing (Eastern Region) and also Secretary of the England Fencing Union and a member of the Board of British Fencing. Councillor Sach is looking forward to serving his community, commenting: "I hope during my year as Mayor to meet many citizens of Chelmsford, particularly those who volunteer their time. I'd also like to be able to shine a spotlight on many of our borough's unsung heroes. I am keen to promote and support our Chelmsford charities - especially those that help young people. I look forward to a year in which there will be, I am sure, many memorable occasions that will promote the Borough of Chelmsford to the benefit of all its residents." He will be supported in his new role by his wife Lorraine as Mayoress. The Mayor has appointed Councillor Bob Denston to be his Deputy Mayor who will be supported by his wife Linda as Deputy Mayoress. At the meeting, it was also announced that the Mayor's chosen charities will be Chelmsford Association for Disabled Sport (Dovedale Flyers), Kids Inspire and The J's Hospice.
