Chelmsford Borough Council's seventh annual Disability Sports and Arts Day took place on Saturday 9 May at the Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre, and was a huge success with around 300 people attending the event. 13 May 2009
The day provided an ideal opportunity for those with disabilities, and their family and friends, the chance to take part in a wide range of exciting sports activities including trampolining, ice skating and boccia, whilst a range of fun arts sessions kept creative hands and minds busy. This year's event attracted people from further away than in previous years, with participants travelling from as far as Reading to take part in the unique event. Chelmsford Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, Councillor Ray Ride, said: "I am pleased that so many people attended the day and were able to take part in the wide range of activities that were on offer. The Council believes that sport is for everyone and events such as this encourage people with disabilities to take part in activities that they may not have previously considered."
