Chelmsford Borough Council is supporting 'Noise Action Week 2009' - an annual initiative that aims to raise awareness of the problems caused by noise and the solutions available to tackle it. This year, Noise Action Week is Monday 18 to Friday 22 May. 11 May 2009
The Council takes a lead role in dealing with noise nuisance and staff will be available during the week at three information days to answer questions, give advice and to take complaints. The information days are planned for: * Wednesday 20 May – High Chelmer Shopping Centre (all day) * Thursday 21 May – Post Office, Melbourne Avenue (9.30am -11am) * Friday 22 May – South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre (10am – 3pm) Through these information days, the Council aims to promote practical solutions to everyday noise problems; educate and inform both noise makers and noise sufferers; promote communication and consideration between neighbours and encourage everyone to take a moment to think about noise issues. The Council deals with a range of noise nuisances, including: domestic, neighbourhood, transport, commercial, industrial and construction site noise. However, one of the Council's highest sources of noise complaints is from barking dogs. If you plan to spend time away from home, don't forget about your dogs - keep them indoors if they bark when unattended or disturbed and try to find someone to look after them or visit them, especially if they bark when left alone. Chelmsford Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Councillor Ian Grundy, said: "Noise Action Week 2009 provides us with the perfect opportunity to promote practical solutions to everyday noise problems, promote communication and consideration between neighbours and educate noise makers and noise sufferers about noise reduction. We want to encourage people to take a quiet moment to consider the noise they make and the noise that affects them - and what can be done to reduce the impact." If you would like to discuss a noise issue, or make a complaint about noise, please call the Council on 01245 606800. The Council also operates an out-of-hours service on 01245 606200.
